  1. Eligibility: This Contest is sponsored by The Reader’s Digest Association, Inc. and Nestlé USA Contest is open to U.S. residents 21 years of age or older at the time of entry. Employees of The Reader’s Digest, Nestlé USA, or their affiliated or subsidiary companies, and their immediate family members, are not eligible to enter the Contest or to participate in the voting process. Contest is governed by the laws of the USA. All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply. Void where prohibited by law.

  2. The Bake-Off: The Bake-Off will be an event filmed in New York City, where two people (the “Finalists”) will each be paired with a guest “celebrity” chef of Reader’s Digest’s choosing. Finalists will help the guest “celebrity” chef prepare a baking recipe, which will be chosen by Nestle and Reader’s Digest. The Bake-Off will be filed and featured online on NestleMillionReasons.com.

  3. To Enter: The Contest begins at 12:00 a.m. EST on September 15, 2008 and ends at 11:59 p.m. EST on December 31, 2008. Entry deadline is October 31, 2008.To enter visit NestleMillionReasons.com and follow the instructions.

    Please submit an original, inspirational story about baking with Nestle® Toll House® and why you deserve to participate in the Bake-Off in December. Essay should not be longer than 100 words. One entry per person per email address.

    Entrant’s submission must not infringe the copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity or other intellectual property rights of any person or entity. Entries submitted in geographic areas in which the entry is not permissible will be disqualified. At the judges’ discretion, entries including unsuitable content or that are in violation of third party rights (including, but not limited to copyrights) will be immediately disqualified. All submissions must be received by October 31, 2008. User voting will take place between December 1, 2008 and December 31, 2008. In the event of technical difficulties, contest submission and voting dates are subject to change without notice.

    All entries become the property of Reader’s Digest and Nestlé USA. We reserve the right to use your entry in all print and electronic media, and to edit it for brevity and clarity. By entering, entrants agree to participate in the Bake-Off in New York City (see Prizes) and be filmed for a video that will be on the Nestlemillionreasons.com website for public viewing and voting.

  4. Judging: Reader’s Digest will select 2 (two) entries as the “Finalists” who will receive the Finalists prize listed below. Finalists will be selected by RDA and Nestle based on the following criteria: originality of story 50%, adherence to the contest theme (baking) 25% and unique writing style 25%. Judges decisions are final.

    After the Finalists are selected, they will be required to come to New York and participate in the Bake-Off. As part of the prize, and to determine one Grand Prize Winner, Finalists will participate in the Nestle Bake-Off, described above. The videos will be edited and placed online, on NestleMillionReasons.com, along with the Finalists original entries for public viewing and voting. Members of the public will be invited to review the Finalists’ entry stories and videos, and vote for their favorite Finalist. The Finalist to receive the most votes at the end of the public voting period will be named the Grand Prize winner.

  5. Prizes: Finalists’ Prizes: The two Finalists will receive a trip to New York City to participate in the Bake-Off. The trip will be a 3 (three) day/2 (two) night get-away for 2 (two) to New York City. It includes: roundtrip economy class airfare for each Finalist and their guest from a major airport closest to each Finalists’ home to a New York City airport; and hotel accommodations for 2 (two) nights for 2 (two) people in one standard double occupancy room at a hotel of Reader’s Digest’s choosing. Finalist is responsible for transportation to and from airports of departure/arrival and transfers from airport to hotel for themselves and their guests. All other costs associated with the guest are the sole responsibility of the Finalist. Both Finalists must travel on same itinerary and must be able to travel between November 14, 2008 and November 22, 2008. Each Finalist must attend and participate in a Bake-Off photo and video shoot during the New York City trip at a location, date and time selected by Reader’s Digest and Nestle. Inability to attend and participate will result in forfeiture of the prize. The Total Approximate Retail Value (ARV) is $5000 ($2,500 per Finalist).

    One Grand Prize Winner, selected by user voting, will receive $3,000 cash. All taxes, if any, are the Grand Prize Winner’s responsibility. Reader’s Digest will not be responsible for any loss, liability or damage arising out of the Winner’s acceptance or use of the prize. All prizes are guaranteed to be awarded.

    Grand Prize: One Grand Prize Winner, selected by user voting from the Finalists, will also receive $3,000 cash and be featured as a “guest editor” on Taste of Home. (As part of his/her duties as Guest Editor, Grand Prize Winner must be available to work with the Reader’s Digest/Taste of Home staff to develop additional recipes which will be used and featured by Nestle in Taste of Home and write an essay/story.) Grand Prize Winner will also receive a Nestle Pantry, including Sugar Cookie Dough Tub, Fudgy Brownies with Peanut Butter Filling, Family-size Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Tub, Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Dough, Mini-brownie Bites Dough, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Bar, Chocolate Chip Lover’s Ultimates Cookie Dough, Mini-chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Semi-sweet Morsels, Semi-sweet & Premier White Swirled Morsels, Chocolate Chunks, Milk Chocolate Morsels, Mini-morsels, Butterscotch Morsels, and Premier White Morsels. The Approximate Retail Value (ARV) of the Grand Prize is $3,125.

    Prizes are not transferable cannot be assigned, substituted or redeemed for cash. Sponsors reserve the right to substitute a similar prize of equal or greater value in the event that any of the stated prizes are no longer available/cannot be awarded due to circumstances beyond the control of the Sponsors. All expenses not specified herein are the sole responsibility of each Finalist/Grand Prize Winner and his/her guest, including, without limitation, meals, minibar, gratuities, telephone calls, and pre/post hotel accommodations. All taxes, if any are the sole responsibility of the Finalists/Grand Prize Winner, as well as travel risks, insurance, loss or damage due to prize acceptance or use. Neither the sponsors nor their affiliates or subsidiaries will be responsible for any loss, liability or damage arising out of the Finalists/Grand Prize Winner’s acceptance or use of the prize. Finalists and guests may wish to obtain travel insurance (or other forms of insurance) at their own expense and hereby acknowledge that the Sponsors have not and will not obtain or provide travel insurance or any other form of insurance. Finalists and guests must possess valid travel documents in order to travel. All prizes are guaranteed to be awarded.

  6. Winner Notification/Conditions: Finalists will be notified by email and regular mail on or about November 1, 2008. Grand Prize winner will be notified by email and regular mail within 4 (four) weeks of the closing date. All Finalists will be required to execute a Statement of Eligibility and Release and Payment Authorization as well as a release to appear in any/all media within 30 days of prize notification attempt or Finalist will be disqualified and prize may be awarded to an alternate winner. Return of prize or prize notification as undeliverable will result in disqualification and an alternate winner may be selected. Entry and/or acceptance of prize(s) constitutes permission for the Sponsors and its agencies to use the winner’s name, address (city and state) and/or likeness for advertising and trade purposes without further compensation or authorization, worldwide and in perpetuity, in any and all forms of media, now known and hereafter devised, unless prohibited by law.

    Sponsors are not liable for, late, lost, delayed, damaged, misdirected, incomplete, garbled or jumbled entries. Sponsors are not liable for any technical malfunctions of any telephone network or lines, computer internet system, servers or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any email on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the internet or at any website, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to participant’s or any other person’s computer related to or resulting from participation or downloading/uploading any materials in this Contest, or other technical difficulties or failures or other errors of any kind. Sponsors are not responsible or liable for any injury or damage to an entrant’s or third person’s computer and/or its contents, related to or resulting from Contest. Sponsors reserve the right to terminate or modify the Contest at any time for any reason In such a circumstance, finalists and Grand Prize winner will be selected based on entries received to date of termination. In the event that two similar entries are received, only the entry judged to best meet criteria as set by Reader’s Digest will be included in the final judging. Entrants agree to indemnify Reader’s Digest and Nestlé USA, their affiliated and subsidiary companies from and against any and all claims and liabilities arising out of or in connection with this Contest. Any dispute regarding submission of online entry will be deemed submitted by the authorized account holder of the email address submitted at the time of entry. “Authorized account holder” is defined as the natural person who is assigned to an email address by an internet access provider, online service provider, or other organizations (e.g. business, educational institute) that is responsible for assigning email addresses for the domain associated with the submitted email address. Sponsors, in their sole discretion, reserve the right to disqualify any person tampering with the operation of the website or the entry process. All prizes will be awarded.

  7. The total number of contestants anticipated nationwide is 1 out of 20,000.
